Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will your management service and VPN tunnels work via frame-relay internet connections?
A. Yes, our VPN tunnels are optimized for non-reliable connections. Even connections with high latency times like two-way satellite work well.

Q. How can I use your service to accommodate secure telecommunications within our organization?
A. VoIP (Voice over IP) applications coupled with our secure VPNs provide the most secure communications for your organization in the industry.

Q. Will secure tunnel connections slow down my network traffic?
A. There is processing overhead due to the encryption/decryption which takes place at each end of the tunnel, however, we've found the latency generated to be insignificant.

Q. Can I buy your product and not subscribe to the service?
A. We offer the solutions needed by our client, if your needs dictate this arrangement, we will accommodate your needs.

Q. Can you assess my company's security needs and locate current vulnerabilities?
A. This is known as penetration testing, while we use this technique against our own clients to maintain security, we do not offer it as a stand alone service. We will discuss your security needs with you at no charge.

Q. What happens if someone compromises, or attempts to compromise our network?
A. In the unlikely event that your network is compromised by an outside party we have policies in place to initiate contact with law enforcement agencies if you have approved the notification of said agencies. If your policies dictate not reporting the event to authorities, we will provide your company with all logged information so that you may pursue your own resolution.

Q. Can you provide internet service, or direct us to a good service provider?
A. We are not an Internet Service Provider, but we consult with our clients to insure they get the best deal for their money. We may recommend a service provider based on your needs ranging from dedicated T1, frame-relay, or two-way satellite internet.

Q. Where can I find out more about two-way satellite internet services?
A. Our affiliate, http://www.albanywireless.net

Q. Does the use of your product with tunnels in other countries violate any encryption/export laws or treaties?
A. Very good question! It may indeed, that's why we must have a full understanding of the client's needs and intentions for use of the tunnels. This doesn't mean the tunnels cannot be in other countries, it simply means the way in which they are implemented might have to change.

Q. I need other data networking services, and network integration, do you provide these services?
A. No. Our services may integrate with ANY existing IP framework transparently, but if you need network design and implementation services we may recommend or even arrange services through a data networking service organization in your local area.

Q. I want my remote users to connect to servers on my network securely using different types of connections and protocols, can I do this?
A. In addition to the VPN tunnels incorporated within our
product/service, you may also use IPSec and PPTP compliant node or network connectivity and transparency.

Q. How do your VPN tunnels work?
A. We encrypt IP traffic at up to 4096 bit, encapsulate it in UDP packets. The key exchange is handled with private keys.

Q. I think I've been hacked! What now?
A. If you think sensitive information has been compromised you should go straight to the FBI, as they have the resources to retrieve evidence from your network where possible without disrupting your working environment. Keep in mind that most instances of illegal access are completely untraceable by the authorities with technical means, they may only pursue cases which involve federal criminal acts.

Q. My company uses DSL for some offices, Cable modems with others, does this matter?
A. No. We like to have your ISP provide a static IP address for each location, but it is not required. We can dynamically configure our systems to accommodate dynamic IP changes by your provider.

Q. I already have a ________________ firewall, can I still use it?
A. We cannot utilize our custom management features with other products, but they may be of use in a VPN scenario. If you have our service at your main site, and an IPSec/PPTP capable firewall at a remote site we will manage the connection and policies between sites. We may also assist with the configuration of your existing firewall in its new role.

Q. We need high availability, can we have backup connections?
A. Yes. Many companies have redundant internet or point to point connections, we may provide you with several examples of how you can implement redundancy into your network.

Q. Could I see a list of your clients?
A. No, anonymity is part of the service.
